I live in Dallas, about 4 miles from your hotel! Weather is likely to be MUCH warmer than you will expect. It may be sweater or light jacket weather . . . just guessing. I've lived here 10 years, and what they say about Dallas weather is "Wait 10 minutes. It will change." Really, it's the only place I've ever been where the sun can be shining brightly and it's raining! You'll be right across the freeway from the Galleria, which is a nice mall . . . super pricey, but nice. There are three stamp stores in Dallas; alas, none of them in walking distance, or even in cab ride distance unless you have a very heavy wallet. The three stores are Stamp Asylum (in Plano)--it is "the original" one in Dallas, and Mary Kay has a large business which is very polished and professional; they have a great selection of stamps and accessories. Then in Carrollton, Beverly Deville has a store called Stamp Deville, which is a stampers and scrapbookers store. Beverly has bulk embossing powder, among many other things. The newest store is Tejas Stamps, in Garland, run by Patsy. It is a small store but she has many things I don't see at the others . . . she's very fond of paper, and I can always find something special there. Oh, and there's ME, Stamped Expressions, with my home-based business (and always a sale on something!) As for fun for kids, since my little girl just left for college, you might be better off getting that info from someone else. If you don't get any info, though, write me back and I'll be glad to ask around. The hardest thing for many people about Dallas is that it is a CAR town. You just can't get around well without one. You may want to consider renting a car, because it is really awkward without. It just wasn't built with pedestrians in mind! It's a great place to live, and if I'm lucky maybe I'll get to meet you. I'd be delighted! I am attending a SIDS Conference from Nov 13. thru the 17 we will be staying at the Doubletree Hotel in LBJ area(?) - I hope that there are some good stores in walking or cab distance from there. Also can anyone fill me in on the weather in November in TX, we are in Mass and its chilly to down right freezing. Also what is fun for kids ages 3-6 to do around there -day trip or something ? Also, I learned that my mail server company has developed and is now using some SPAM control software and will not allow posts with too many people to go out or to come in. I guess this is okay with me but it sure limits distribution lists to only a few people. Oh well! If you've e-mailed me your interest in this swap and I received your post, I've listed your name below. Anyone and everyone interested in swapping unmounted stamps is welcome to send them in. Host: Stamperfly Items: I'm going to combine a swap for unmounted stamps and other fun stamping supplies. Cardstock, papers of any kind, stickers, etc. You can play in one or both of these swaps. Several people have expressed their interest in both swaps already. The advantage of combining these swaps is to save m oney in postage both ways. o Unmounted Stamps. Any quantity. Any type of stamps are welcome. With or without cushion. Stamps will be swapped by weight and consideration will be taken if there is cushion. Please share with me, when you send your stamps in, the kind of stamps you would NOT like to swap for, the kind of stamps you would like to receive. o Cardstock and other fun stamping supplies. Cardstock and stickers will be swapped by weight. If enough other items are sent, I'll work out something by contacting those who send them. Mailing Info: Please send a SAML. If you would use stamps on the packages you send me, I would appreciate it sooooo much because I can use them for collages. TIA Since these items will be swapped by weight, you'll need to send in enough loose stamps or money to cover the return of your items plus one extra stamp, just in case. If you are from out of the US, please take this into consideration and send any extra that will be needed. If you're swapping only a small quantity of stamps or paper send the same amount it cost you to get your items here plus one extra stamp. One thing to be careful of is that because it's glossy, your stamps will slide. I have stamped seagulls and airplanes on cloud with some trees. A good friend of mine Rannie Jo, did a whole scene on a cloud photograph of a barn, trees, etc. It turned out really really cool!!!! She colored with Marvy's for the grass, barn, etc. I really liked this effect. You can spray a finish on top of everything to make it shiny. I got fingerprints all over mine when I did it. I got my BRAIN yesterday, so I ordered another one today. Neat stamps, and it got here in record time. However... I have to make clear again I can't let a good/bad list on the list. The good part isn't a problem (the good reports are GREAT! keep 'em coming!), but the bad part maybe could turn out costly to me. This relating to libel laws and me being "publisher" as the list-owner. It's real fuzzy and I don't want to take chances with the few assets I've got. I do apologize for this one rule on an unmoderated list, it's the only one I've got, and it's to protect myself. I do know that sharing bad vendor stories would be extremely helpful to everybody... but if one of 'em feels they've been unfairly represented and wants to sue, I could be included in the suit. I would surely win, because there is no way I can erase a post once it's posted to the list, but I don't want to be the test case on publishing of a mail list. Thanks a heap. Use the list to ask for private e-mail to collect information, that's cool. Or if you want to know about a vendor you're thinking about ordering from, ask the list for private responses about that vendor. Or if you're totally ticked at a vendor, ask the list for private responses for a possible mail fraud suit. As long as no (potentially) libelous remarks are posted, I'm a way happy camper. So thanks for looking out for ME in this one. I really do appreciate it, especially the compliance with my wishes from those who don't agree with my rule. In many ways I do agree with you. But my lawyer says play it safe and that's what I want to do. ========================================================================= Janet Detter Margul | Real women don't have hot flashes... Another stamper coming my way! We have stamp stores. We have warm weather. And tons of stuff for your children to do! November weather is... well, who knows. It could be in the 80s. Probably will be in the 70s during the day and the 40s at night. Every now and then we get a freeze that early, but not often. I'd recommend dressing for 80s and bringing a sweater or light jacket for evenings or just in case. (And if it is freezing, call me and I'll bring you down a winter coat.) (Like I own one? LOL!) (I really do, I wore it when I went to visit Frank in February one year. I don't think I've worn it since, though.) That hotel is up close to SaraStamps. And I'm not all that far from it either. Marsha too. Our public transportation system is, uh, well, somewhat lacking. Although the kids might like taking the bus to close to downtown and riding the cable cars (not San Francisco but we have a short route). There are several pretty nifty malls right in that area, though, a short cab ride away. And some great restaurants. Closer to time we'll have to schedule some out-to-eats and stamping frenzies, okay? ========================================================================= Janet Detter Margul | Real women don't have hot flashes...
