I was the swap hostess who said, "I do not return postage" ... meaning that I mail the swap cards from Canada, it takes darn near $2 and sometimes a little more to send the cards from here, plus I supply the envelope. The other thing is that the packets will take different amounts, depending on thickness, etc ... and so I'd be at the post office, making change in US currency -- running back and forth to the bank to get "pennies" in change, back to the post office, to put the "proper" amount of change in each envy for each swap participant (that was under the $2 in actual postage costs). So ... to simplify matters, what I do is ask for $2 in postage, and I don't return change. What I do (usually) is send a um to each swap participant, to make up for the 0-35 cents difference. Another thing is that whenever I play in a swap that's hosted by someone in the US, I send $2 (US) for my own return postage .... and I never expect change back. Sometimes someone sends a little change back with the cards, and that's ok, but I don't expect it. I also use the US currency, for when I have small orders (see note below) from the US online vendors ... saves running to the bank for a money order .. Experience at hostessing has shown me that the cost for me to return swap cards is close enough to $2 to make this a reasonable request. I know from at least one US hostess (Lisa Wynn - are you listening), that it almost always costs $1.95 for her to return swap cards to me here in Canada .. and I find my own costs (envelope + postage) are very close to that. One thing I'd restate is that if the $2 postage cost for my swaps is a problem, no one has to play in my swaps, and many opt not to. That's ok, I understand. Note: A *whole* other subject is that I don't recommend sending cash in the mail for purchases over ... say about $8 to $10. I use an international money order (in US funds) for those "larger" purchases. Ant Judy H. My other car is a broom. My swaps are sent to the swappers with Canadian stamps that I buy at the post office. It usually comes out even between the cost of sending the swaps from Canada and the amount of the US stamps that I receive. Sometimes it costs me a little bit more, but that is all part of being a hostess. The reason I ask for the US postage is that I enter lots of swaps myself. Most of the hostesses are in the States. I use the US postage that I receive in my swaps for the swaps that I enter. I put the stamps in with my swap envelopes. This saves me buying the international postage coupons which are very expensive. Stay Happy and Healthy! I lugged it upstairs and ripped off tons of packing tape and found the mailer stuffed, overflowing to the rim with paper !! I have so many different kinds and textures and colors - its amazing. I love the fact the Evo (and Fran Shaw) always give you at least 6 of each kind - perfect for swaps if using the same is important. I ordered the paper on Monday or Sunday and received it on Wed. - great service, wonderful prices and best of all the counting was way way over 85 sheets - :) Thanks, Maria This message was from StampMeMad@aol.com - -- The rubberstampers mailing list is proudly sponsored by the Dueling Modems Arts & Crafts Forum.
