Lawyers? Friends???? Here's a note I posted the other day . . . I haven't seen it on the list, nor have I gotten any responses . . . so, here it is again! Help!!!!!!!!!!! Sara Subj: I need help--AOL users? Lawyers? Friends???? Date: 10/18/97 To: rubberstampers@craft.dm.net Have any of you had any trouble with TOS violations? It seems my DH has written some posts which are allegedly "flaming," and we've been put in the AOL Doghouse. Let me tell you, I've read these posts, and the person who interpreted them as inappropriate has to have been having a REALLY bad day! Well, FG2000, at least you got a reply from Steve Case. I've written him requesting help, and I've gotten NO response. I sent the same note to several other AOL addresses, and so far I've heard from two of them saying basically that I'm addressing my concern to the wrong place, and I should direct it elsewhere. GREAT! They don't even give me a mailbox, just tell me to go look up an address! Now that's service! Any ideas? (I feel like I'm taking a big risk posting this to the list, but I really need some help here . . . they've already shut off our account once, and for really piddly stuff . . . the worst comment my husband made in a post was to call someone an ambulance chaser . . . not exactly too nice, but hardly a reason to shut off our account I'd think. Speaking of ambulance chasers, . . . I mean attorneys (VBG), DH thinks we may have a class action suit against AOL, but I really think they are too powerful for it to make a dent!) Any advice is welcome! Sara StamPerson@aol.com SaraStamps@aol.com Here's the note I sent: I'm very confused . . . my husband (kryptony) keeps getting stuff pulled that just seems to have NO RELEVANCE to the note we're getting. Here's the last note that was pulled: "Say, aren't you that feller that ole WW was gonna do in? What was the name?" Apparently this was considered a flame. This was in no way a flame . . . it was a question . . . asking if this was the same person! How could that POSSIBLY be considered a flame? I really don't mind having things pulled off if someone feels it is necessary, but I feel very confused about why this (and other posts over the last few months) would be considered a Terms of Service violation. I would appreciate it if someone would review our account, and discuss each of the Terms of Service violations with me. Perhaps if I could understand your point of view (and you mine), we would be able to communicate better. If we were mean, nasty, or ugly, unkind, and generally harassing sorts of people, I might not be so upset about this. But really, we're very nice people! We are not disruptive, rude, or unkind in any way! I really need help in understanding how we could be considered disruptive, harassing, and flaming people! And I want to CHANGE that impression in your mind, and the mind of everyone else who seems to have power over what is written on AOL. It frightens me . . . we depend on our AOL account, and I'm feeling insecure about it's continuing, as a result of what appear to be very arbitrary decisions. I would like to discuss this with someone who can help me resolve it. I would like every single alleged violation reviewed. My telephone number is 972-234-5109, and I am available most evenings and weekends. (Note: My experience as I have tried to resolve this over the last several months has been that I've been referred from screen name to screen name, then told to call membership services, who was not willing to discuss this at all). When I opened the mailbox today...out crawled the slug swap!!! Oh, ho, toooo funny!!!!! Anno hosted this little gem, and she tucked in a little envelope all printed up with slugs -n-kisses, and it contained an icky sticky little grey thingie....sort of a slug! (Hey Anno....remember when I told you I was gonna send you a nice big slug...and you said "You wouldn't dare?"....hehehehe....wouldn't I?????) Maren used bright green cardstock and layered a nifty dark green textured piece on it. Then she used white stock and stamped a veritable party group of slugs on it., colored them in and made a neat speckled edging on it. The whole piece is then coatd (is it laminated??) and is quite smooth and shiny. Inside it sayd "It;s not pretty being easy" Tooo funny! Linda Lloyd used tan cardstock and then white layered on top, with a wavy edge cut. She stamped two big crittes on it, one is wearing a fancy hat, the other ha s big old buggy eyes. One asks "What exactly is it that you're doing" and the other says"If I told you, you wouldn;t believe me". Inside are multiple little snails stamped and the word "YOWZA!" Cute idea....are we referring to those tans about the love life of slugs?????? The ASPCA will be after Jhone if they get hold of her card!! She used tan stock and made a liftable flap in the front. On the flap is a piece of background paper with eeeeew slugs repeated on it, and then a blue layer with Do a good deed!! on it. At the bottom is a little harmless slimy slug stamped in some grass. He looks quite moist due to the coating of crystal laquer. When youlift up the tab, you find a big foot ready to squash the slug! Nan..ex fast posto.. used brown fleck cardstock as a base. She deckle edged a darker brown layer, and then used an exotic paper with brown , beige and white flecks and a rough texture. On this she stamped in dark brown, a big slug. He is embossed for that slime effect, and has a little slime trail behind him, too! Great effect! Anno's card is of dark green textured stock. She mounted a bright yellow square on it, and then a square of natural tan stock. On this is stamed a flower (bloodroot? Anemone?), embossed in black, colored in yellow and orange tones. At the roots is, what else? a slug...but he has been stamped on paperclay (?) and made wet and shiny looking. Nicely done! Great swap...now I hafta get together with Karen who got different cards in it! Whee...I get to see more of them! {{{Rubberhugs}}} Ann-onymous This message was from a.larue@juno.com - -- The rubberstampers mailing list is proudly sponsored by the Dueling Modems Arts & Crafts Forum. (it is a Time-Life book about $16--well worth the investment for years to come). it has dozens of wonderful things that will keep long enough to ship-- like candies, baked gifts, canned gifts, and sauces and flavored vinegars and oils. AND it is simple enough for even me to follow!! it also has beautiful photos for packaging ideas. other book that is nice, but usually a little more complicated is the Martha Stewart "Good Things" book. for those of you cringing from the mere mention of her name--i did too, but decided the book had such good ideas in it, i wouldn't pass it up!! (btw, no affiliation to either of these companies... yadda, yadda, yadda) OTHER IDEAS money free gift one year i had absolutely NO $$ for gifts. i barely had gas money to get home for the holidays. BUT there was a beautiful old pecan tree in the yard of the house my roommates and i were renting. every day for a couple of weeks, i'd go out and pick up the pecans that had fallen the night before and take them inside to wash and dry them. they would then go in a paper bag decorated with crayons and markers. they were primitive, but my grandmother cried when she saw them because she knew how difficult the semester had been . after dinner, we all sat around the fireplace and ate the most delicious pecans ever. pressed leaves i've never done this, but have read about it and thought it was an amazing idea---for those folks fortunate enough to live where there are beautiful fall leaves...why not share those with friends and family members that would otherwise miss it??! collect old phone books and press LOTS of leaves during the colorful season. there are also all sorts of wonderful ways to dry them using glycerin and the microwave. you can then just send them loose in a box (very lightweight) for others to enjoy. mini holiday watercolors an easy project is to take a simple watercolored drawings about 2"x2" (or stamped images) and put 4, 6, 9 or more of them in a grid pattern on a textured background paper then frame in an expensive frame. the images can be all the same or different as long as they are the same size for continuity. i liked to give ones with the holiday theme so they could be used each year for decoration. b&w photography take black and white photos and frame the good ones for gifts. it is MUCH cheaper to do this when one has access to a darkroom, but it is still cost effective. it might even be worth the effort to enroll in a photography class at a local college or art center to learn the techniques and produce a dozen or so great photos. the year i did it, i would just tone down the weirdness of the subject matter (and put clothes on all the people!) when sending to the more conservative members of the family. high contrast photos of old buildings were always a big hit. one classmate did several great portraits of her children with the pets to send to family members. No, see... that's not how he is. When he married me, I had three kids. Our entire married life has been full of tragedy, for years (major thefts, major and minor illnesses, cars blowing up, car wrecks) ... and he's been there through it all. We haven't been able to really talk directly about this... but I think it's because he is just so tired and stressed out and feeling out of control. He's definitely not a jerk. We've been arguing so much lately and he's been working so hard to keep the family afloat financially for the past year and there have been so many awful things these past few months... and he simply wasn't able to be there for me as much as I needed and he got upset, I got upset, and he spoke reactively and left... and I just fell apart. I'm praying that it's just all of the stress... I know he'll be there for the funeral tomorrow and then maybe we can start addressing all of these issues and maybe even working them out. I'm just trying to deal with so much and needed some help from you guys... which you wonderfully and generously supplied! Thanks guys, Rachel > Big hugs and love to you Rachel.
