Just when I was feeling sorry for myself because I still have not received the Halloween Pin Swap, I received a package from my SSS. Everything she sends me is always such a day lifter. This was no exception. I received some sheets of miscellaneous exotic papers. They are too pretty to use but I will try. I received a sheet of address labels. I love the font she used. I also received some gift tags, some glossy cards, some heart cards, some three part cards, and an assortment of cello bags. Everthing came in cello bags. I also received some Spuer Emboss by Suze Weinberg. My SS made some cards and included them in my package. When I grow up, I want to be able to stamp like her. The first card was a sunflower card. It is made with a tan colored cardstock. Layered over that is some sunflower paper that is black with polka dots and has sunflowers all over it. A piece of beige corrugated paper is set at an angle at the upper right part of the card. Two stamped Stampendous flowers are on top of this. The flowers are covered with crystal laquer. The whole thing is brought together with a raffia bow tied on the left. In the lower left had corner is a piece of kraft cardstock with a piece of pinkish cardstock with the words especially for you embossed in black. This is so beautiful!!!! The second card starts off with pine green confetti cardstock. This is covered with a piece of white background paper with green and red polkadots. A frame by Pennie Black is centered on this and the middle is cut out. The bottom of the frame is covered with crystal laquer. A geern ribbon is tied to the very top of the card. Peeking throught the frame on the front, but really on the inside of the card is a layer of red and green plaid background paper. This is layered over the red and green polka dot paper. A santa by Hero Arts is stamped, colored and covered with crystal laquer is raised in pop dots. below that are the words Ah... Christmas by P.O. Box. I love this card. I love these. ALL fabrics and crafts were discounted 40% for this sale. I must say that for it being a Saturday night I still found the store busy. I got some cool stuff and spent less than $25. Imagine that. I got two stamps; both from Stampendous...one was "Home Tweet Home" and the other was a lighthouse. I grabbed the last Christmas etchling stencil of a Christmas holly circle, two boxes of beads, two bags of 1" wooden flower pots, two bags of gold metal beads and two packages of corrugated cardboard shapes. One package is hearts and the other package is gingerboys. With the corrugated shapes I thought I would apply some rub-n-buff to them and attach some stick on stamped images. Punch holes in them and make a garland. What a simple but elegant gift. I will also add fabric scraps to the string. Its a great lightweight gift and easy to pack and send. That's it for now. It is the RICHest shade of speckled darkish red and in a matching envelope. I love that color. First of all, the envelope itself is very special and is mail art all by itself, even if it contained no card. There's that beautiful Brazil postage with not one but two UBERLANDIA, URA postmarks. An airplane and a woman sitting on the sand saying "Oh, NO" she sobbed. "My mailbaox is *CHOKE* empty!" Well, I know for a fact that Stampcas sent out lots of these RAKS, so I think we can pretty much guarantee that HER mailbox won't be empty for long. Now to the card... A wonderful cat stamp (which I also happen to own) -- the very fluffy cat sitting in a window with shutters and flower garlands all around, and an ivy garland at the bottom. The words of course say, "A house is not a HOME until it has A CAT." with which I heartily agree, indeed I ammend it to say "... until it has SEVERAL CATS." This unit is cut out and trimmed into an arch with dragonback paper trimmers, and mounted on an angle onto a rectangle of cork - VERY thin. and this is mounted also angled on the delicious red cardstock. The image is colored beautifully. Stampcas says in her note that it's her first effort with Tombow blender on watercolor paper, but you coulda fooled me. She claims to be a newbie, but this is NOT newbie work. She sprinkles her note with lots of really neat big smiley faces and says some very nice things about me which make me blush. She signs off, as she always does, "Love and sunshine always." Thank you so much Stampcas. I treasure this and appreciate you thinking of me and sharing your work with me as well. As a kinda new stamper I think handouts about basic stamp care and embossing are perfect. I just took a newbie stamp class and she didnt have a project for us she bascially came in to show off her collection of stamps, had no stamps for us to practice with and didnt know the difference between Pigment and Dye inks - I paid 8.00 dollars for this and even though thats not a lot I wished she had a had a smiple project or handouts about stamp care and embossing and cardstock, just the basics. I was glad I took the class when 15 minutes into I was explaining the difference between inks - thanks to this great list. She also told the class to store all your stamps and ink pads in the fridge that its good for the rubber - I heard the part about the inks before but never about the rubber in the fridge. Good luck- give them a project to keep busy- maybe ask the owner or manager if you can get a starter kits for them included in the class cost - say a small stamp and 1 dye pad and 1 embossing pad or pigment pad - handouts, emboss ing powder a few pieces of cardstock. That would have helped me in the very start of things to understand what goes with what better. Maria G.
