First of all, I got to SEE MY DAUGHTER HEATHER!!!!!!!! She's 17, graduated, and is off emerging from her cocoon in a wonderful program (but 1800 miles away from me). I hadn't seen her for 6 weeks, and it really did my heart good to have those arms around my neck! She's a terrific hugger, and I'd been missing those hugs! And smiles. And sweet eyes. And laughter. And . . . well, I COULD go on and on about this! But I won't! Just know that I really needed that time with her. AND THEN, a 6 o'clock Friday evening I had the privilege of meeting Maria Gallagher (StampMeMad@aol.com) and Victoria Flaherty (vflaherty@cybertours.com) . . . these two incredible women joined Heather and me for dinner at a restaurant RIGHT across the street from Heather's apartment! Maria lives in Worcester, and she planned this very well. (Does baked brie, hummus, and fabulous pasta mean anything to anyone else?) But, you guys, it wasn't the food at all that mattered! We all just got on as the saying goes "like a house afire." First of all, there's no stopping Maria! She is just wired--she has so much energy! After supper we went to Heather's apartment and met her roommate, who just HAPPENED to be the teacher's aide in Maria's daughter's class. When John, Jake, and Olivia came to pick up Maria, we all went out to the car--was that little girl SURPRISED! They are an extremely nice family. And Victoria, who's so quiet and observant, barely got a word in edgewise over dinner (really, with Heather, Maria, and me, she hardly had a chance!) (We sure made up for it later, though!) Her dear Vince drove her down from Maine for this evening event, and then wouldn't even stay for supper--just went off and left these women alone! Heather took Victoria and me to our hotel, where we had one adventure after another . . . a hotel manager who didn't really want me at his hotel (a LONG story) and had the poorest customer service for an expensive hotel I've ever seen . . . and THEN, we just got to our room and realized we were missing a wallet . . . found it in the car, though! Victoria and I started stamping and talking and PLAYING with our "toys" and didn't quit until after 3 AM! Oh, my, was I tired the next day for parents day at my daughter's school! Maria joined us at some ungodly hour (8:45 am I think) and brought bagels, cream cheese, and tea for us. Good thing she woke us up, because I had to leave at 9:45! Never a dull moment . . . I think that's the theme for the weekend. We became fast friends, and I for one hope that these friendships will grow for many years. You are very special people--thank you for joining my life! I feel blessed and enriched by your friendship. Now that we've recovered a little from losing Pilgrim, my mom and I went to the humane society today to look for a new kitten. I already sort of had an idea of the cat I wanted...it wasn't as much a breed as...I just had this idea of a kitten named Prudence (taken from Beatles "Dear Prudence, won't you come out to play?") who would like to come live with us. Anyway, they had more boy kittens than girls and I kind of thought maybe I should get over my Prudence fix, but even though the kittens I held were wonderful and adorable they just didn't mesh, you know? So finally they brought out a gorgeous little female. She's 2 1/2 months old and apparently a Persian/Tabby breed. I think her features are more tabby, but she has a very fluffy tail, but she doesn't have the face of a Persian. Anyway, she's got wonderful bronze, copper, gold markings. She's just gorgeous. And she has the most wonderful eyes! They're bronze! Unfortunately she's not spayed yet so we had to leave her there for that...she should come home in 2-4 days. I can't wait. Already I feel happier than I have for a long time. Anyway, I'll let you know when she comes home--and anyone with kitten advice, please send it! It's been a long time since we've had a kitten and I also figure it will take a little adjustment for her since she won't have other cats around....but two devoted humans at her disposal! She sent me the Stewart Stamps I ordered - they are wonderful stamps - the Kodiak Bear one is one of the best I have seen so far. Thanks, too, Darlene, for the bag of goodies - Abby and I loved them!! Then, of course, all the great Christmas Recipe Book Swap pages are coming in - this is going to be such a great booklet!! For me ( who shares the list with my stamp club where there are 3 who don't have internet access but love to do the swaps ) I find it harder to have to look for the person hosting the swap (sometimes no last name) and then having to look up their address. I would love to print the master swap list with the addresses right there. Just a thought and wonder. Please don't yell at me if this was discussed and decided way before I was here. I actually got this package on Saturday, and apologize for not posting sooner - have been a little 'under the weather' for a few days. But this package was such a wonderful surprise on Saturday, and really helped to brighten my weekend. First off, there was a wonderful box, covered with blue mulberry paper. Inside, wrapped in tissue, are all these great cookie cutters - a big ice cream cone, a pear, banana, strawberry, lemon, and a cute little teddy bear. This is funny, since I was just looking at some of these the other day in the store - thinking it'd be fun to try making some pins - spooky, isn't it? You really can read my mind, I swear! Next, a great bag of collage items - ribbons, raffia, doilies, confetti, little bells, bows - all kinds of neat things! Can't wait to make you a card someday with some of these! And another package of treasures and trinkets - buttons and bows - these are so pretty! A sample bag of Northern Lights ep - I don't have this one! A bottle of silver tinsel ep - great for some Christmas cards I'm working on - some regular silver ep, and then a bottle of ep from Comotion - tho I'm not sure what kind it is, since the label must've fallen off - mystery ep?? A great big package of cranberry corrugated paper - love this color!! A package with two bath cubes - they smell wonderful... A pack of fold-over notecards with beautiful garden and bird scenes on them - they are so pretty! Another great package of Geopaper - my sisters are so jealous when I write them letters - they love the paper I've been using! A really pretty aqua dye ink pad - a color I don't have - thanks!! And a wonderful, HUGE Magenta stamp - it's so neat - has the cat, puppy, and frog on it. Maybe I can use this for my next Magenta study group! Ooops - almost forgot the 'cow seeds'! My daughter automatically thought they were candy - took me awhile to convince her that they were just for fun! These are so cute - such a clever idea!! Thanks so much, dear SSS - you always send such wonderful packages - I have used so many of the things you've sent already. I can't wait to find out who you are - you're not giving me any hints, or are you??? I always know when it's a package from you - you and that sneaky post office helper who puts the label on your packages!!
