If you do not check the retrieve attached files box, all that will be downloaded is the email part of the message. Then when you read that, you can decide if you want to download the attachment or not. In this case I guess you would not.... I have a book from AOL and their suggestion is not to automatically download attached files because of problems like you have experienced, and also because of the threat of a virus being downloaded. :( Cathy Lilly ------------------------------ From: Elizabeth Salcido Date: Sat, 22 Feb 1997 18:51:50 +0000 Subject: Re: RS: Liz Salcido's SS Dear SS, I got your Valentine on Tuesday. I didn't want to post until the mail situation got fixed. It is beautiful. Thak you so much. Will I ever get any information about you? I got a beautiful heart shaped card that had a wavy edge. There was gold along the edge. On top of the card was a layer of white mulberry paper. On top of that was a paper cast rose. I have never tried that. How do you do it? Is it easy? Attached to the left of the rose was a mauve ribbon. Very elegant. The envelope that it came in was covered with chocolate stamps (the rollergraph I think) I would love that roller (hint, hint) I already have the handle. Inside the heart were the same chocolates, but they were embossed and on chocolate paper. In the middle of the chocolates was embossed "When all else fails, try chocolate." What a great motto! Glued to the inside top of the card was some white corrugated paper to make it look like a box of chocolates. I just got that! I also received some candy coated chocolate raisens or cherries. I am trying to eat them one a day so that I can make them last a long time. Thanks so much. It was a real day brightener to receive your Valentine. Love, Liz **A really big DUH to me!! You then get the message that comes with the attachments, but it doesn't actually download unless you decide you want it. Look under mail preferences in the mail menu (I think). Unfortunately, Eudora doesn't seem to have such an option. Not sure about NEtscape. But in AOL you definitely do. I have it turned off so that I never get files downloaded unless I want them and have to actually make the personal decision and effort to do so. StamPatti, vsa & vsr Computers are life. I laugh every time I think about the story he posted about his box of spiders in his back room. He said he went to pick them up off the floor and they moved, it had a real spider in it. At work, the cleaning crew keep stealing my coffee mugs. I have fixed those cleaning ladies this time, I have a clear coffee mug, and I turn it upside down over one of those spiders. Through the glass it almost looks real, anybody want to remove the mug covering that monster? :) Thanks Stampo!!! Neither would I hold open a swap waiting for people who do not reply and who do not send postage/stamps. I would e-mail the person(s) asking for what was missing and if I had no reply, I would send another e-mail telling them I was sending the swap out on a particular date and if I did not have the dollars/postage by that time and they would like their own cards returned to please send a SASE for their return. Now this would not be a set of the swap cards, just their own submissions back. I have always heard from participants in my swaps who missed getting the postage in the envy and I have received the amounts asked for. In fact, there have been a couple times when I forgot as well and sent it separately, but I always kept in touch with the hostell. You will have to do what you think best, but I think it is not fair to assume the hostess is just going to absorb all the cost. Just my two cents. Hi Judy and everyone, My Valentine faux postage came in the mail today. Somehow it crept accross Montana and made it here. What a lovely bunch of stamps. I recieved 32 lovely postage stamps to decorate cards/envys etc. with. And I only sent in 30! Some are so real looking. All are great. I would have a very hard time picking out a favorite. I'm going to make some more up and have them ready for another swap if any come down the line. Judy, thank you so much and for the little basket to put them in. They are slippery little devils aren't they? BTW, I don't host swaps for a very good reason. I'm usually so unorganized, I would ruin any swap I was the hostess of. I'd lose addresses, cards, stamps everything!!!!! So to save everyone frustration and reward those who are brave and dedicated enough to see them thru, I'll try to add a little extra for the hostess. Postage, um die, confetti, specialty paper, stickers etc. If I put it into a seperate small envy within the swap labeled as a hostess gift, would that be all right? I sometimes feel guilty that I'm not willing to take on the task of hostessing, so this is my way to make up for it. Ann B.
