But I went to a Lady Dealer's house that I met sometime last year at a craft fair, who introduced me to rubberstamps, and she was showing me some sample cards of things that she has done. I was so embarrassed for what I sent in the mail. I should have never signed up for any kind of swap, before I learned what everything is about. I don't know what 90% of the stuff is that I hear mentioned on this list. I am learning everyday though and this dealer also mentioned alot of the same stuff. I feel like (what my 4 year old son would say) a real Butt face. If you want to, just send the cards back to me and I will understand perfectly well, and I won't have my feeling hurt at all by it. I am not anywhere near ready to swap cards with such pro's as I have come across on this list. For now, I think I will just read all the postings and learn from that before I venture out again so prematurely. Thanks again for all your help though, You have been so kind and helpful. Don't get me wrong, I am no where ready to give up yet! Just need to take a couple of steps back and observe some more. Thanks again Beverly Larsen BLarsen523@aol.com ------------------------------ From: giggles5@juno.com (Linda S. If this girl is a newbie then I think I need her to come give me stamping lessons!!! Wow! On blue Linen cardstock she layered a darker blue in more like a cloud shape and on top of that she has an Angel embossed in gold and sticking on top of the "cloud" with a pop dot. She then has a piece of gray cardstock that is finished around the edges as if it was an old time tablet and has embossed in gold, "For he shall give his angels charge over thee to keep thee in all ways." This card is really beautiful. It is signed by "K". Come out, Come out where ever you are K! Thank you for the beautiful card and the wonderful note! Stamperella sent me a card that starts with white cardstock, layered with hot pink and on top of that she has layered sheet music from The Rose. On top of that she has stamped and cut out a rose and has wrapped green tissue paper around the stem. This is too clever!!! The card is outstanding and something that is really beautiful to look at!!! Thanks bunches Stamperella for sharing your first swap card with me and for the wonderful message! Julie, our Midnight Stamper, sent me a gorgeous card. She used white cardstock, layered it with that a dark plum with heart corner punchs on the corners, Then she layered a heart with stripes that is white and white with some purple in it. Around the heart is smaller purple hearts and across the heart is "thankful is the heart who has a true friend" and then on the side is one of the neatest angels I have ever seen. The wings on this angel are gorgeous. She has embossed the angel in black but the wings have gold flecks on them. This is really beautiful!!! Thanks Julie and I'm looking forward to our date, hopefully next month!!! Julie is my neighbor.....well she only lives 40 minutes away and we are going shopping as soon as this bubble bursts!!!! Can't wait! Can't wait!!! Marie (HeartLynd) sent a really coooooool package. She sent some floating YANKEE CANDLES .....yummmmmm my favorite and then are you ready for this one????? She sent me a roll of SUZY ZOO Ribbon!!! I have never seen this before!!! Let me out of here! I need to go find some Suzy Zoo Ribbon!!! I didn't even know there was such a thing!!! Then she made me a card that was wrapped in a gold ribbon and has gold embossed on two corners and when you open it up it's like a little box.....she has confetti inside. This is really neat! This one, you are going to have to ask her about because I have no idea how she did this one!!! Her card is so neat!! She has spronged purple on white card stock and cut the middle with fiskar scissors making the opening of this card the middle instead of on the end. On each side she has embossed the scribble stars and cut them out and has glued the top and the bottom ones and pop dotted the middle one. These are done in different pinks and purples. This card is really beautiful. The inside she stamped with, "Sending many stars your way for you to wish upon!" I absolutely love this card! Thank you so much Marie for everything but especially for your note!!! Betsy Bursey made a card starting with white cardstock and she sponged the fron with pink, yellow and what looks like streaks of purple. This made a beautiful effect. She then layered a white piece of cardstock cut in a square and on it she stamped a woman in a chair with her head on her arms hanging over the arm of the chair. There are lots of little tiny stamps at her feet and above the chair is "So many stamps, so little money!" In the lower right hand corner she has pasted two confettii stamps! On the inside she has stamped on the left side a fairy god mother which you would have to see to believe.....it makes me giggle everytime I look at her and on the right side she has stamped a rubber check, money, and a rubbercard!!! Then on top of everything there is money confetti in the card!!! This is so cute!!! Betsy, this card is wonderful!!! Thank you so much!!! Libby sent me a really unusual card. When you look at this card it reminds me of a collage card only what she did was made little slits in the cardstock and then slipped different papers through the slits. This is really neat. She used a dark plum cardstock and the contrast of the different colored papers is wonderful. This is a great idea!!! Thanks bunches for your note and for everything you have done for me during this crappy isolation!!! You have always brought a giggle to me with the crazy things you have found for me!!! Julie (Glittergirl) made me a little warrior hat to wear in my fight! This is so cute!!! Her card is white cardstock with a heart embossed in gold and a little heart of flowers embossed and colored in the middle of that one sticking out with a pop dot. She then embossed a sun for me and made a magnet and she thinks the edges are sharp enough to bust me out of here but......oh Julie!!! It just didn't work......guess we will have to go back to looking for hat pins!!!! Hey! An Ice pick will work!!! Thank you to all of you for helping make this isolation a little less isolated!! You are all so very special to me!!! Giggles and Grins! The first one was on one of those monumental birthday milestones. My dear friend Sue, said, "Rose, you know how they always say that you are "over the hill" on birthdays like this? Well, I just never think of you as "over the hill". I always think of you as "over the rainbow"! I thought it was such a beautiful sentiment especially because it came from her heart. All my gifts were rainbow themed and she even included a music box playing the song.As a matter of fact, she's the one that gave me the calendar that I use every day for our "Friend Like You " quotes of the day. My other quote that I think is so special because it also came right from the heart was from our own dear vendor, Ruthann Gigliotti. We have been corresponding for over 2 years now and have had MANY good laughs with each other either snail mail or e-mail. She really touched my heart though when she wrote to me, "You're the nicest friend I never met!". And isn't that so true of most of us? We have made these wonderful friendships and probably will never get to meet each other but there is still such a strong connection. Thanks for letting me share, Rosemarie G ------------------------------ From: stamper@sprynet.com Date: Fri, 28 Feb 1997 00:35:55 -0800 Subject: A Friend Like you quote for the day Is it possible that I am so busy doing that I no longer have time to enjoy being? I always thought that when you started stamping the whole idea was to have fun!!! This isn't a contest....even though some may think so.....this is to learn new ideas from others. I am sure your cards are fine!!! Knowing Lori, there is no way she will send them back to you. She is truly one of the "gems" on this list!! I don't think there are many of us that sent our first swap in that we wished we could have those cards back again!!! Yikes!!! There will always be swaps that you aren't happy with what you do because you always think they aren't good enough. The whole idea of a swap to me is to give me a subject and then to use what stamps I have to be creative with! When the swaps stop being fun....that's when I don't want any part of it! So for heavens' sake just have fun and you will be surprised that someone who receives your card will enjoy it!!! Just for the record, I don't think you are a butt head......if you would like, I would be more than happy to give you a list of people who are......they all have initials behind their names......like, M.D., Phd., R.N. and on and on! That doesn't include the stamps/postage I include in swaps. I probably spend about $30 a month (including the average postage amount I spend on my SSS mailings). Of course, the amount varies depending on the number of swaps I am participating in. THERE IS A DIFFERENCE ! ! ! ! ! ! Wonder Tape and Miracle Tape are basically the same thing, BUT one has much more tape for the price. They are both MUCH BETTER than the dryline adhesives and well worth the extra cost. The dryline adhesives are not always reliable and BREAK. There is no way to use them unless you are a rocket scientist and can figure out how to mend the break in the paper coating. The new Monoadhesives that Tombow has put out are basically the same as the drylines. We used these new tapes in one of the classes at the HIA show. THREE different monoadhesives at my table BROKE on the first pass over the paper. So, IMHO, I would contact Stampo and get his Miracle Tape. There are several ways that pop into mind. 1. Buy a big length of plastic chain. At the convention last year in Dallas one of the vendors was selling plastic necklaces that were made out of big chains. I had to buy THREE in order to wear all my pins. 2. Buy a length of 2" - 3" ribbon and pin them on it and hang it up on the wall. 3. Buy a big piece of felt. Roll over one edge to make a hem and either sew (if you can find your sewing machine) or use Aleene's stitch-it glue. Insert a dowel rod through the hem. Tie a piece of yarn or ribbon to both ends to make a hanger. Pin all your pins to this and hang up. 4. Remove the pin backs and replace with pieces of magnetic tape. Plaster your refrigerator, filing cabinet, the side of your computer(?), anything metal and show off all of those wonderful stamping creations. Donna, you can get very inexpensive cork at any automobile supply place. I've gotten it in rolls at WAL-MART and K-Mart. I think it is used for gaskets or something like that. I just undo the roll and roll it backward in order to get the cork straightened out. Then have at it with your stamps. Happy Stamping! Your teacher was probably referring to the paper linter that is used to help stabilize and hold the paper fibers together. I always tell my classes that they can use just a little bit of this paper. BUT you do not have to use it. I've often times forgotten to add the linter to my mixture and the paper still turned out just as good. You can use almost any kind of paper that you have handy. I use the edges torn from my computer paper printouts (the holes, in other words) to use as the main filler for all my papers. Then I just add napkins, tissue paper, any colorful junk mail which does not have printing, goofed up handmade papers from other times, cardstock, construction paper, etc. etc. etc. The list just goes on and on. You can make VERY INEXPENSIVE paper by just using what you have around the house.
