Here's my opinion: I do agree that if a hostess (or several hostesses) were constantly posting 4 ,5 or more new swaps each month, it would be like "hogging" the ideas. But, I think some people (such as me) have certain times of the year when their lives are more under control and they have time to hostess swaps. If that means they host 2-3 at one time, I still think that is ok, since they are not doing it year-round and it will "all come out in the wash". I think people who want to host can come up with LOTS of creative ideas. Another slant on it is that even if there are 2 swaps with the same theme, maybe the requirements are different and one swap will appeal to some people and the other won't (one might be 5/5, the other might be 11/10, or one might mean a hostess gift or the deadlines don't work out). The last thing I want to say is that some people look for hostesses who have run successful swaps before. If these names didn't keep getting posted, some people may never join a swap. I hope newbies will not be put-off because they think there are too many swaps out there--there have been lots of times when I have wanted to join a swap and did not find one that appealed to me or worked out with my time frame. After all--there are--what 500 people-- on this list? Plenty of potential swappers to be lured in with the right swap idea and terms. From Cynthia Sillitoe: a bookmark of green/ivory duplex, layered with gold cs, with an oriental woman stamped on white, colored with pencils and cut out and layered on the gold. From Jennifer Hanes: a burgundy linen card with rounded edges, layered with a square of pattered silver paper (beautiful!), on top of that a layer of pink vellum? stamped with a screen in red and embossed in clear. To one side is an oriental woman with an umbrella stamped on blue vellum? and embossed in black, cut out and layered. Jennifer, how do you get your embossing to come out so even??? And, of course, I now must have that screen From Valerie Bernunzio: a postcard of red cs, layered with a diamond of white paper with green patterns, and on top of that black cs with the figures stamped and embossed in gold. The image is a Curtis Uyeda, group of five people wearing hats. Add me to his growing list of fans... From Reiko: a card of light blue flecked cs, with four dry-embossed "panels" on the front. On it are a green heron, gold kimono, and a pink oriental girl stamped and embossed in clear, and four black candies? For a border she masked the middle of the card and stamped a cherry blossom branch around the edges in light pink. From Cheryl Helm: a card of black linen cs, painted with gold on the outside (did you do this yourself??) On gold cs is a bamboo branch, stamped in black and embossed in clear. This is mounted on the card with photo corners and foam tape, and came in a clear envy. These cards are all fantastic! And Rhonda even threw in extra goodies, material and instructions for an origami kimono, even including a sample! With about 2 weeks left to get the patterns in the mail, there is still plenty of time to sign up if you haven't done so already. The swap will be a relatively easy one for you to do. You don't have to make anything for it. Just send in one copy of a pattern/ instructions for making a homemade book/journal. If you want to send in the instructions for more than one book, feel free to. Some people have e-mailed me with concerns about wanting to participate, but not having any patterns. If you need ideas about where to find some patterns, let me know. There are lots of resources out there and I know any of you that are having this problem could find a book making pattern/instruction if you knew where to look. I don't have all the answers, but may be able to help. Let me know!!! I will make copies of each book pattern and instructions for each participant and mail them back. That way everyone gets a copy of each style of homemade book pattern sent in. I will have to be firm about the due date. I want to be able to get these copied and mailed out ASAP after the due date. Here are the specifics: What to send: a homemade book pattern w/instructions, please include your name and e-mail addy on your pattern. Also, if you got the pattern from a book or other source, please list the source, I don't want to get in trouble for copyright issues. Due Date: Jan. 15, 1998 Postage: SAML + $4.00 (Priority shipping & copy costs) If you want to send more than one pattern, thats great. The more patterns submitted, the more everyone will like it. I will be only sending only one copy of the patterns to each participant though. Also, I am making a homemade book for each participant. So if you would like to send one along to exchange, I would love it!!!! Not a swap requirement though! :-) Let me know if you have any questions or need my snail addy. I prayed the whole way home! We had gone down to "The Mall" to see the movie Flubber ( very funny) and do some shopping. We took a young boy ( he's from Russia and is visiting with his family , they are staying with the pharmacist that my DH works with) with us to the movie's and shopping. We had to get him back to the 'house' where he was staying. He's only 10 with fair English skills. Anyway, it was raining down in Dover, NJ while we where there and when we left. Half way home it turned to freezing rain and slush, then to snow with freezing rain on top of that! Taking him 'home' we were in the 'boonies'. No way we could get stranded or stuck. Thank God for this new van we are leasing, the new Toyota Sienna with front wheel drive. It did great and so did my DH driving skills. I know there were angels pushing us up that 1 hill! And also Thank God for cell phones. We could call my DD at home to reassure her we were still alive and on our way. We also had my other DS's friend so he called his Mom from the car. He is staying over night and will be picked up in the am. I am very thankful everyone got home OK , including DD and DS who were at work. I hate when it is freezing rain. I would rather drive in packed snow. Yes, I do remember life "BK" before kids but it's very vague. I remember that my apartment was very clean and uncluttered. Now I have a whole house and 4 kids with DH and it's too small and very cluttered!! I named my siamese after the book characters. Last spring my son's school did the " Mikado" by Rogers and Hammerstien. ( hope the spelling right). Anyway, the main characters were KoKo and YumYum. I wonder if Lillian got the names from the play? Too much of a coincidence?
