Swap Proposal re-post Hi all, Need just one more committed player to make this official! Anyone interested? If postponing the due date into March would help let me know! dkj Subj: Swap Proposal: Mardi Gras! Date: 01/09/98 To: rubberstampers@crafts.dm.net Mardi Gras celebrations began this week and as I am lamenting that I have never been to "The Big Easy", I also began to think that this would be a great subject to explore via a swap... It's a intriguing multicultural history, from beautiful to bizarre, with all manner of traditions beginning with Twelfth Night revelry and ending this year on February 24 (or "Fat Tuesday") with parades and the accompanying floats and "throws". In between are more parades and celebrations - masked balls; kings, queens, and courts; and secret society krewes with names like the Phunny Phorty Phellows, the Barkus Krewe (membership limited to dogs!), the Zulu Social Aid and Pleasure Club, Inc., (who throw the highly coveted "golden nuggets" [painted coconuts] on parade day). There are all manner of customs quaint, gorgeous, and/or outrageous, and several fascinating subculture and alternate celebrations, as well as celebrations in Europe (from whence it came...) and South America and etc.... One place to look for info is http://www.fattuesday.com - If you think you might be interested, let me know! I'm thinking of a late February postmark date, with a 5/5 objets d' art, and a PG13 rating... Laissez les bon temps rouler! Deborah ~dkj (thinking she needs a stamp like this...) Cox" Subject: RS: Cool Rub-Ons Me again, about those rub-ons. I was playing around with shrink plastic this weekend and came up with a really cool embellishment for a travel card. As you may know, when you shrink the plastic the colors become darker. Silly me, I was using 2 shades of brown chalk. When I shrunk the plastic the color was really, really dark. Well, I decided to stamp and emboss in black anyway, hoping against hope that it would look good. WRONG! The background was so dark, you couldn't make out what the stamp was (a compass rose). Here's where the rub-ons come in. I ran some of the copper rub-on over the whole piece of plastic and POW! the compass rose is gorgeous! It is a really knockout copper color and it jumps off the plastic because of the embossing powder. This embellishment went from blah to wow in one super simple step. Thank you, Evo for turning us on to these cool paints (paints?). Cheers!!! Christine This message was from "Christine L. We have been discussing the failings of this company for many months now - since spring of last year if I'm not mistaken. And in doing so, many other people that may have placed orders from this company did not do so. Now it seems in a few instances that I've read recently, this person/company is attempting to get her backlogged orders out. Is it fair to publicly discuss a company's bad business practices, yet when they make corrections, keep it quiet/private? I don't think so. The same people need to be informed of the positive as they are of the negative. I for one would be very gladdened to hear that Sargie's is getting all their back orders and problems cleared up. Who knows, if they have a good track record for a reasonable amount of time in the future, I might order again. And I'm sure there are other people who will be watching their e-mail for updates on this. But to ask Shiloh5 or any other person who has dealings with Sargies to only post privately to those people who had problems with her in the past is unreasonable. I doubt any of us is keeping a list and as it is I see this as information that the entire list needs to know. I think it would be far easier that those who are *not* interested twitch their delete finger and rid themselves of the offending post/s. I know the lady that owns the stamp store in Oakdale, where Mostly Animals are made. The last time I was there, she was showing me a card that she had done for the website. Hers was done in marker...but they redid it in colored pencil so it would scan better. I don't know if that is the case with the rose, but it very well could be. You may be looking at a reproduction of someone elses work...just a thought!! I thought no-one would open them unless they knew just exactly what was inside. This is the reason for my 5 different ad posts. And as far as I can see, I'm not the only one doing it. I certainly don't have a problem useing the delete key if I need to. Frankly, If you are not interested in my post. I could care less if you delete them all.. I most likely don't read yours either.
