Rilling) Subject: RubberTown: Stamping on Watercolor Paper I have heard that somefolks are having problems stamping on watercolor paper without the ink absorbing. The only way I ever stamp on WC paper to do my tombow blending or watercolor is to use embossing ink and then emboss in gold detail EP, or whatever Ep you choose. This helps control the spreading of my colors and keeps the design in the lines. The paper does not soak up the embossing ink before I can emboss. I have been doing this for 2 years with no problems. Of course you must use a somewhat smooth finish WC paper. I sell a cardstock weight that works great for me for 3 full sheets for $1 plus postage just in case someone can't find something suitable locally. I have had a few people drop out of the swap, and I am looking for a few people to take their places. If you'd be interested, please let me know. Here's a basic description: Print up one of your favorite Christmas recipes on a sheet of paper and make 81 copies. Stamp some of your favorite Christmas images on the page (this could also be done before copying, if you wish) - include your name and email addy on the page somewhere, and maybe an short note about where the recipe originated, if it's a family recipe, etc. There is not a need to do an elaborate job of decorating here, just use your imagination and most of all, have fun with it! These need to be postmarked no later than October 20th. Several people are sending more than one recipe, so this should be a wonderful compilation of recipes - all from fellow rubberstampers! Please email me for more details if you are interested. Thanks! What is >it? How is it used? How do you make it? > - ---------- Brenda, Thanks for asking the question! The answer is below and probably more info than you really expected. The following is an explaination that was posted to the list a while back, by Gretchen Davey. If you'd like to receive a color flyer on the self-adhesive postoids stickers of my own original designs, just send me your snailmail addy and I'll pop it in the mail for you. :) Sheryl (aka Postoid Artist) "Postoids" by Gretchen Davey Postoids, “Faux Postage Stamps”, Artistamps, Mail Art - all of these are names for a fun hobby that’s been around for a long time, but hasn’t been all that well known around this area. These neat little “postage stamps” can be extremely elaborate, resembling real stamps very closely, or they can be quite simple and very easy to do. Some are made on the computer, or using a copy machine. The techniques we will cover will exclusively use rubber stamps, doing each postoid individually. Postoids are a fun way to enjoy stamping when you don’t have a lot of time or space to do a large item. They’re a great portable project because a lot of it can be done ahead of time. The finish work can be done anywhere - on vacation, in the car, in a waiting room, or anywhere you can color, glitter, or cut! Finished postoids make great envelope decorations and are great for “swapping” with other postoid enthusiasts! Postoids are usually gummed so they can be stuck to envelopes as a decoration, so peel-&-stick paper or gummed paper is a great thing to have on hand. You can also make your own adhesive and paint it on the back. Since this tends to curl the paper, you need to let it dry completely and then iron it flat with a DRY iron (using a cloth). Of course, you can also individually apply glue to each postoid to adhere them to the surface, but if you want to exchange postoids with others, you need to have the adhesive on them in a way that lets others use them easily. The three techniques we will cover are: 1.) Pre-made postoid stamps, 2.) Empty postoid frame/tiny stamp postoids, and 3.) design-your-own postoids. Method #1: Pre-made Postoids. Many companies carry pre-made postoid stamps. Hero Arts, Peddlar’s Pack, and All Night Media are just three companies that carry lots of fun designs. With these, you just stamp the postoid on your surface, color it in, add glitter or other special effects if desired, and cut out. The “Stamp Edgers” from Fiskars make a great postage stamp edge! You can also stamp your postoids right onto the envelope and color them in. This is a great way to decorate your envelope when you don’t have time or the materials to make full-fledged postoids. Sometimes you can’t tell if they’ve been stamped or stuck to the outside of the envelope! Materials needed: Gummed or Peel & Stick Paper Postoid Stamps Coloring markers Glue Stamp Edgers Method #2: Fill a Frame Postoids. Empty postoid frames are carried by a number of companies, such as Hero Arts & TooMuchFun. You then take one of your tiny stamps (didn’t we all start out buying a bunch of those because they were cheaper, but now don’t know what to do with them?) and stamp the image inside of the empty frame. Depending on how your eye is, some prefer to stamp the frame first and then fill it; others stamp the tiny image first and then stamp the frame around it. After coloring the image, add a “postal saying” and “value” and, voila!, you have a postoid! Materials needed: Gummed or Peel & Stick Paper Postoid Frame Tiny Stamps Colored Pens Stamp Edgers Method #3: Design your own Postoids. Sometimes you see a stamp that would make a terrific postoid, but it’s too big for an empty postoid frame. You may have a great idea, but you’ll need to combine a couple of stamps to achieve the results you want. This is where your creativity can kick in! On a piece of paper, play around with your stamps, trying different placements and combinations. When you get the image you want, draw a plain rectangle around it and see if the finished product is what you want. If it is, duplicate your design a number of times on a piece of adhesive backed paper, color and decorate as you please, draw the frames around them, and cut them out with your stamp edgers. Some of these “do-it-yourself” postoids are the neatest of all! Materials Needed: Gummed or Peel & Stick Paper Small stamps Colored pens An extra fine-tipped black pen (for the frame) Stamp edgers Recipe for Adhesive: 1 Tablespoon white glue (like Bordens or Alene’s Tacky Glue) 1 Tablespoon white vinegar 1 drop peppermint (or other) flavoring This can be stored in a small plastic container to have ready to paint onto the back of your paper with a small paint brush. If you want a larger amount, just keep the proportions the same: 1 measure of white glue to 1 measure of white vinegar. Remember that the paper will curl as it dries, so be prepared to iron it flat when it’s dry (or flatten it under a heavy book). - -- Sheryl Davis aka Postoid Artist email ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 26 Sep 1997 22:46:34 +0000 From: Ken Kosmo Subject: RubberTown: RS: Life is fun when you are having flies.. If you're interested in purchasing some please send $10.00 + $3.00 postage and you will recieve 20 feet of wire. Each foot contains 50 different strands of wire - for example per foot you would actually get 50 feet so when I state that I will send you 20 feet of wire you will actually receive 100 feet of wire if each strand was laid end to end. I also have some Baby Wire available that is a bit thicker, it comes in 8 primary colors per foot and is the same price. If you wish to trade for the wire I'm looking for unmounted stamps, mounted stamps, old Somerset issues or Stampler Sampler's issues, Rubber STamp Madness or any Rubber Stamping books, supplies or papers. I will send you an equal amount in wire for trade. If you wish to receive a sample of the wire please send a self addressed stamped envelope (.32 cents is sufficient) along with a hand stamped card or unmounted and I will send you the sample as soon as recieved. Please make sure to mark on the envelope if you wish to have baby wire or fun wire. If you want one of each please send two separate envelopes. Here are some of the uses for the Wire; Fun Wire Description The fun wire comes in many different colors and holds it shape pretty well. You can twist it around a toothpick or a shiskabob and it looks like a teeny tiny spring. It's thin enough when you pull one strand out to go through button openings or even small bead openings. Some Ideas on Uses As little streamers in shaker cards - sort of like the kind you would see during New years - since they are so many colors - you can put really small pieces and curl them and it would look similar to shaking streamers. Stamperella - I used the fun wire to make lassos with. The yellow with the grey wound around it looked like rope to me. Great lassos! Impress of the Night - book binding Thread Jewelry With It. You can take several strands and twist them all different ways and makes very interesting looking abstracts. Someone whos name escapes me (SORRY!) - suggested I tie it at the end of a balloon which I've done and it looks great - I've taken it one step further and tied it to a balloon and then tied it to a character and it looks like a kite. Tie it around a small bag (or large) and then curl it - fill with goodies and color cordinate. Nancie Wiley - God's Eye & Friendship Bracelets I hope these ideas help you and if you come up with any let me know - I'll gladly add your name to the list. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 26 Sep 1997 22:40:07 -0500 From: Shannon Green Subject: RubberTown: COMM: Rubber Poet You all may remember that Rubber Poet refused to sell to me a few months ago because I was offering their stamps over the net at a discount. I had a nice conversation with Barry today and he has graciously reconsidered his decision. So....I'll work up a price list and post an ad next week. Rubber Poet has merged with Yes Pigs Can Fly and they are currently working on a website for both lines. Once this website gets up and running, I may not be able to offer this discount so now's the time to stock up on Rubber Poet's beautiful images. If you're not familiar with their stamps they're worth looking into. They have something for almost every stamping style: semi-cute, weird, elegant, realistic, eclectic...petroglyphs, people, animals, tribal, fabric designs, phrases, art deco, and goddess images. Rubber Poet is an Angel Company. I don't have catalogs so you'll need to find one if you're interested. You can get them directly from: Rubber Poet P.O. Box 218 Rockville, Utah 84763-0218 801-772-3441 I *think* they're $3.00, but you'll need to double check that.
