- ------=_NextPart_000_0107_01BD0EFD.22913BA0-- - - ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 22 Dec 1997 20:39:35 -0500 From: "Lisa Mallette" Subject: RubberTown: Buffalo Stampede swap received Thanks, Tonya, for hosting a great swap and for the UM stamp you sent. Here are the cards I received: Tonya, our gracious hostess, made a beautiful card of a flower (I don't know what kind - I have a brown thumb!) watercolored (?) in pink, violet and green on off-white linen CS w/ decorative edges mounted on dark pine green CS. A simple, elegant and classy card! Ginger McNally's card is the pretty rose teapot (I have this stamp myself and ALMOST used it for my cards!) embossed in silver on cranberry CS which is cut out with deckle-edge scissors and mounted on a square of grey CS with one decorative edge. This is mounted on cranberry CS for a very pretty two-tone effect. Debbie Popish created a card with three layers of CS - beige on green on black. Sponged on the beige are swirls of copper and green. This sets off a trio of southwest-style pottery which has been embossed in black on thin cork - cool! - and highlighted with metallic copper paint accents. Debbie, where did you get the cork? I have GOT to try this! Very nice card. Brenda Volpe (I hope I have her last name right) did a great job with a background of real wallpaper and a wood floor that looks like she drew it herself! Great job, Brenda! Stamped on separate CS and attached with foam dots is a cute girl holding a birdcage, which looks like it was colored with crayons. I wish I could do such a neat job coloring with crayons, but they always "get away from me" and I end up with big white spaces or colors outside the lines. Brenda did a fabulous job with them - I had to look closely to see that they were crayons...thought it was colored with markers or colored pencils at first. Lil' Inker (I love that name) made an explosion card! I only just learned how to make these myself, and they are so easy to do, yet so impressive to the recipient! The outside of the card is simply a row of rubber stamps in purple ink along the bottom. So you're totally unprepared for this HUGE explosion of paper that comes out at you when you open it, the edges of which are covered with images of stamping supplies (ink, scissors, sponges, markers, EP, heat guns, etc) - in the center of this is an adorable angel flying along with a rubber stamp and "It's a stamping thing" underneath her. What a fun card for all the addicted stampers out there! Thanks again, Tonya, for hosting. I really enjoyed participating in this swap! Yummm!! Then I also received a darling card from Kelly too, it has one of the DOTS cuties holding a sign that says Friend to Friend. It came in a clear envy, I love that, and I'm sure my postcarrier, Mary Ann, did too. I wish I had your beautiful handwriting Kelly. You cut an 8" square of paper, make an x from corner to corner on the wrong side, then using a penny for a guide, draw a circle in the center of the x. Then you fold the corners in to the center of the x, making a smaller square. You then cut the paper, between the folds, down to the circle, but no further. Then you take a long straight pin, (like someone said, the kind that is about 3" long and has a "pearl" on the end) and pull up a corner of the paper and punch the pin through right at the tip, curling the paper around your finger, but not creasing it. It sort of flips over. You then take the next corner and do the same, placing this piece under the last one and so on until you have 4 corners on the pin. At this point you push the pin through the center of the x you made earlier, put a couple of pony beads on the pin, and push it through a small dowell rod or square rod of balsa wood. To keep it all together, take the eraser off a pincil and push the end of the pin into it. It will take a bit of adjusting and shaping, but this pinwheel really works great! I just did them with my Kids Club group this week-end, and they loved them.
