Thank to all who resonded to the original post. Although I am pretty familiar with Fimo and the like having used them some before, I got the *distinct* impression from Clearsnap's advertisement, that the clay being used was not oven cured, but actually cured WITH an embossing tool. At the risk of violating copyright laws, (Hi Joan! I APPRECIATE your time-consuming posts to help us all with this confoozling issue :) I'll go ahead and quote more of what was written about this technique. "...Karen uses low temperature modelling clays, which dry and set at the same temperature typically used for embossing powders. While the clay is soft, stamps, findings, faux gems and other items may be pressed into the surface easily. The 'resist' technique ....entails stamping first, then EMBOSSING the images with clear powder. Next, background colors are brayered over the embossed images. Ink will not stick to the embossed areas, so it may be polished off with a clean tissue...." It goes one to say..."Standard Colorbox inks may need sealing or a final finish, depending on the product." This is the question then....OBVIOUSLY this clay cannot be put in the oven AFTER it is embossed, or the embossing would re-melt to likely disasterous results. If this is so...then the clay HAS to be set with the embossing gun entirely. Can this be done with the standard polymer clays? In the advertisement/article itself they are making picture frames which would certainly need to be cured, I'd think. And NOwhere in the article did they mention brand names of the clay :( Jest curious...:) Redstick redstic@intersurf.com http://www.intersurf.com/~redstic/Home.htm Redstick's Rubber Stamp and Paper Arts Page - - ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 22 Jan 1998 14:33:44 EST From: Rubberdz Subject: RubberTown: COM: #1-Blue Willow China Stamps I'm going to post some "commercials" today... I called Customer Service and talked to a lady that was very nice and understanding. When I get my new pads I have to send them my old ones so they can check them out. She also told me that there's no need to store the pigment pads upside down because the ink is so much thicker than dye ink so storing them upside down doesn't make any difference. So, if anyone else is having problems with their pigment pads being dry (and you don't think they should be), call Clearsnap and I'm sure they'll help you out too. I use smaller stamps around rim and larger stamps on pot. Sometimes I color the images using more acrylic paint and then I seal with a spray on Laquer... To do all this, I use one of those rubbermaid Lazy Suzan trays (size of a plate) so I can turn the pot while I paint.... makes it a lot easier to get even strokes. I received the spring 'new product' flyer from Embossing Arts yesterday, and besides some new stamp designs for Valentines, EAster, and their new line "Rachel Rabbit" they are also carrying a new embossing powder, and some beautiful 3-D paper designs. The embossing powder is an ultra course ep used for the textured look. I would venture to say this is similar to the other ultra thick ep's on the market. It comes in 2 sizes - 8 oz., which I will sell for $7 each, and the smaller 1 oz. size, which I will sell for $2.45 each. And the 3-D paper designs are beautiful! There are four different sets - - these look handpainted and are pre-cut with a peel and stick strip on the back. These sets consist of butterflies and floral designs - I am really anxious to get some of these and try them out! I will try to describe each of the sets and list their prices below: Set #1 - this has 4 different floral designs and 2 butterfly designs - the main colors are purple, lavender, and shades of yellow. It looks like there is a daisy, some pansies, and the others almost look like primroses. My price $3.50 each. Set #2 - this is basically the same as set #1, but in shades of red, pink, and purple. My price $3.50 each. Set #3 - again, the same as #1, but this time in shades of pink, magenta, and blue. My price $3.50 each. Set #4 - This set has 4 large butterflies with 4 1/2" wing spans. Each has 5 graduated wing sizes attached to the body, which can be lifted to give the 3-D look, but also possible to seperate to create single or double butterflies. These come in beautiful color combinations of blues, purples, reds, oranges - so pretty! My price $4.55 each. I will be placing an order with Embossing Arts on Monday or Tuesday of next week, let me know if you would like any of these or any of the other products from Embossing Arts. Hi Kim! The Tribe buddy swap goes on for three months. Right now they are on their last month, so new sign-ups should be coming up soon. Sammilyn will send you out a form to fill out, complete it and return it to her. On the form is information about yourself, your stamping style, what type of stamps you like, your wish list and how much you want to spend. Then every month for three months you will send to your Tribe Buddy and receive from someone else. It's a lot of fun and it's amazing what type of things your tribe buddy sends you. This last month I received a lot of card stock and specialty paper from my tribe buddy. I'm still enjoying the beautiful papers she sent. Because of all the great paper I got, I've been stamping my heart out. I think it's a good program and as long as everyone keeps up their end of the bargain, it seems to work well.
