I was re-doing all my HALOS books last night (well, I made a dent in it) with different colors of dye ink for fun. Anyway, I discovered that the wipes I was using to clean the stamps were really turning out pretty! I flattened and dried them and they look great! The blue, green and purple will be great with sea themes and the many shades of red would be perfect for valentines. Then there's the red/green combo, the purple/blue combo, even the black/purple one...well, you get the idea. A few of them even kept feathery impressions of the stamps I cleaned. Interesting! I used two kinds of wipes and liked plain old Chubs best (the Huggies aren't as wet, they have little bears embossed all over them and they shred too much when I clean the HALOS block -- although a little bit of that looks okay!). Not very waterproof, of course, but a good idea for recycling! So, did everyone already know this? - - ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 29 Jan 1998 02:26:21 -0800 From: Joy Subject: Re: RubberTown: Do you know where I can find this stamp at? I am a Gerontologist! Kathie--something that is easy to make dear one--and is very much appreciated - --is door hangers! Take a piece of cardstock in a vibrant beautiful colour. Cut it vertically into two long pieces. With a circle cutter make a big circle on the top. Rubberstamp these with alphabet stamps and the person's name. It would be lovely to add themes which are of particular interest to them. bring a selection of animals, flowers and funny pictured characters to choose from. To my heart--This idea serves a multitude of purposes. It helps to keep the patient oriented to their own room. It helps to keep their friends oriented on how to find them! Thirdly--it allows them to add another creative touch to their surroundings. All of these are vital to healthy aging. Our club of about the same number really enjoyed this. I took a variety of materials (card stock and envys, exotic papers, ribbons, buttons, pre-stamped/embossed images, old greeting cards, punches, fancy scissors, etc.), plus some samples...and let them use their imaginations. I also took a selection of stamps for messages, to make cards for Valentine's Day, Easter, Mother's and Father's Day, Birthday, Thanks, etc. They were tickled with what they made! And happy to learn to make something special from what they already had around the house (tho a few did go and get stamping supplies, punches and scissors afterward!). It was also a good "recycling" activity to do with their kids! In fact, one of the girl scout troops did it later. Be sure to take lots of scissors, glue and mounting tape! Have a question to you most creative people - I have been invited to present a stamping project to 40 - 50 women at a brunch. They want a hands-on project. I really don't want to use embossing or pigment ink since there will be a lot of nonstampers present. I thought about stamping on clay pots or making one of those candle holders with a small glass bowl, glitter, and a few stamped images. HELP - does anyone have any suggestions? My corrugating device (formerly used to get the last drop out of my oil paint tubes) refuses to do a nice straight corrugation on papers. It starts out straight enough but after about an inch the waves start heading off at a slight angle. By the time two or three inches go by the corrugations are at an obvious angle. After that, it's hopeless. Now the paper is crooked enough to bang into the sides of the device. So, tell me, is it just mine or does everyone have this problem with the little handheld squeezers? Is there any other kind available? When Rubbertown first started there were a lot of people who were adamant about keeping it separate from the big RS list with separate swaps, separate posts, etc., so I didn't want anyone to get upset to find a strictly Rubbertown swap on the RS list Master Swap List. I don't know if those people are even around anymore or if they still feel that way but really, the more exposure your swap gets the better, right? Plus I know there are a lot of people on Rubbertown only that would like to see the Swap List on a regular basis. I think both lists are coexisting quite nicely with the exception of the occasional tangent and cross posting. So if no one objects I will be happy to add Rubbertown swaps to the Master Swap List and I'll post the Master List to both Rubbertown and the big RS list as updates are done. Anyone object? LOL They wetted them and used food coloring, but markers or watercolors work too. Play around with 'em until you get an effect you like. You can wad them up like tie dye or keep them flat; use lots of water/color or just a little. Let them dry and iron them and you have some cool ( & cheap!) patterned papers. Happy playing!
