And I know some of you went... I met you... stampers want to hear from you I'm sure! I'm using a borrowed address! This is Kathie, who ordinarily stamps in a tiny place on a sandhill in South Carolina. I had a fabulous time at the convention. My first convention, my first trip in over two years and my first flight in more years than I can remember. What a blast! Not nearly the blast Evo got flying home in a storm! Awful! I've done that. Didn't like it at all. I loved the convention. I cannot believe what a freindly, caring group of people I met. It was the most uplifting experience; just awesome. My DH will have another stroke if he sees the charge card bills. He mentioned on the phone that he paid all the bills and "you sure have been spending a lot of money." I had the perfect remedey. I assured him that I won't ask him to write the checks anymore. (I knew I did that job for a good reason!) I bought everything in sight, I think! Two or more of some stuff because I am starting a young friend off as a stamper! She is already hooked, just looking at my cards and all those terrific pins I traded at the convention. So, we'll add another happy stamper to our numbers. I'll be at Grapevine next year! This is a great place -- not only a good convention, but the nicest people. I'm walking on air. Off to cut rubber! 8-) Kathleen Lloyd (who is usually klloyd@netside.com, but is now LLbell3@aol.com - -- and having fits using aol, I might add!) I am still in Texas; flying back to SC the 10th, but I don't want to leave! I am having a wonderful time! And if there are storms on the 10th. . . well, I just strip the old wallpaper and redo my friend's dining room to earn my keep! - - ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 03 Feb 1998 12:29:26 -0800 From: Larry Anderson & Diane Hare Subject: Re: RubberTown: swaps (Karen) Amazonadct@aol.com wrote: > > Wow all these swaps sound wonderful.... If you're feeling shy, watch for swaps that especially say "Newbies" or "Beginners". Also watch for swaps with themes that expecially interest *you* or which can encourage you to showcase something you really like. As an example, I like realistic rabbits but also was unable to resist a couple of carousel bunny stamps. They've been sitting in my bunny-proof mechanic's toolchest. A carousel theme swap has been announced ... *that* is the incentive for me to use instead of just collect. I'm confident that I'll get lots of additional ideas both from nudging myself to participate and from the cards/items that'll be received in return. Regarding instructions: In Juno, I can set up separate folders to keep similar e-mail messages together. I have one labeled "card descriptions" and I keep the great descriptions people post of the swap cards they've received. They are great to read through to get ideas for future cards. Also, I haven't been there for a while, but I'd start at Dragonhome's web page at http://littlebit.com (I think that's the URL) and see what links you can find. Good luck! Can anyone tell me where I went wrong? Per Angelheart's Tips/Techs I tried both cutting to size of shape plus a smidgen for shrinkage and I tried just cutting a hunk off the sheet. Since I could cut after heating/stamping, didn't see that this would make a difference. I heated (over foil covered board) with heat gun at least 25 seconds on top, then same on bottom, then same on top again. Edges curled a little as I've read--no biggie. Hurried to press inked image into the hot foam and when I released, I had stamped foam. Period. Inked image on foam, no dimension, no impression. I tried with marvy matchables dye ink, imprintz pigment ink, and colorbox pigment ink. I wasn't trying for leather look or anything (it was a valentine) but I pressed pretty hard. Has anyone ever done an exotic paper swap? Would it work? Would anybody be interested? I don't know if this kind of swap would work out or not cause of the different values of paper? Am I making any sense? Would appreciate your opinion. If response is good, I'll host. It would be 8.5 x 11 and you would send your favorite kind of exotic paper and get others back? I was in one of these once before and it worked just fine. It was for postcard sized pieces, tho. I think the hostess stipulated no mulberry paper since it's fairly common. I discovered a new to me company this weekend at Grapevine, Fishbone Graphics. My first thought, when I looked at their images, was "hmmm, reminds me of StampFrancisco!". And the more I looked, the more I liked. Now, if you do not like the old vintage, art, don't bother with Fishbone Graphics. I did not see any contemporary art. But , if you're like me, and love the good old stuff, you will really like Fishbone Graphics! It's run my 2 really nice gals, whose name I cannot remember! I am so bad at names! If you do send for a catalog, let them know I sent you: I told them the RS list and Rubbbertown stampers were the best!
