I opened up my swinging mouse card outside in the wind and confetti went everywhere. I even used your envelope in my speech to show that people actually use stuff like wallpaper in rubber-stamping. My other gift was from Diana Sullivan. I would love to have seen the postal workers' face when this went through the mail. It's a laminated postcard with roses stamped all over it. Hi Fran and Cindy! DOn't have your email handy, so I hope you see this! This is one of the most touching and wonderful swaps I have ever been in! I even was privleged enough to receive one of Fran's and Cindy's cards, the artists of the book they put the cards into. Very simple and elegant idea, Fran! The book construciton is made from purple felt cs, cut in half, so that it is 5 1/2 x 8 1/2" and each page (there are 4) has each of the four corners punched with a corner rounder! Aren't your fingers soar? The binding is parchment paper strips. Then, a charm (from moi) was put on the front with a lavendar ribbon bow and all throughout the book is peices and peices of mulberry paper, pieces of gold metallic string, gold ribbon, so pretty! THEN, each card is placed on a page, well glued on the page. A pretty gold ribbon ties off the book. You can stand this book up. It's really pretty! What a great idea! Now here are the card descriptions..... Michelle Oakley, in memory of Curtis Uyeda, using a butterfly and floral imgages in rainbow ink and layers with ribbon and laid and columns cs. Very pretty! Jen Decker made a card in memory of grandmother. Okay, Jen, that paper is really kewl! I want some! Jen used LOVE alphabet letters in silver and stamped little rosebuds on two corners and layered with handmade paper and cs. Pretty papers and very soft for a grandma. Daphne Macpherson, in memory of her DH. (my heart goes out to you :) A photo of her beloved Duncan with layers; a frame stamp and handmade paper. Binding the inside pages with mitzuki cord. Yours touched me so much! Last and certainly not least, our hostess' cards! Cindy's card is a scenic stamp remembering her dad...grass, blue skies, a family eating at a picnic table and I assume dad riding the tractor, and a big pine tree and birds in the sky. Cindy used a corner punch and layered onto cs. The inside has a heart using metallic??? and maybe crystal 3D laquer and cowboy boots dipped in while still hot/warm. Kewl, Cindy! Fran did a watercolor of roses in memory of her French Grandma. She told me in person that she always had roses, so roses was a remembrance of her. Fran cut out the image with her fancy edge scissors and glued to the front of a blue/purple cs. All of these are just wonderful and I'm so glad that I joined this swap! It gave me lots of inspiration and also helped me to know I'm not alone in the loss of someone very dear. It really does help, more than I can even say. Hugs! My first stamp was the small dog (I think a scottie) wearing sunglasses and drinking, probably, lemonaide. But since I am crazy about fresh brewed ice tea with a wedge of lemon, then I say he's drinking ice tea. I got him in the summer of 1988 at Michaels in the L.A. area. I didn't have a clue what I would use him for but he was so cute, I had to have him. They now make a HUGE version of him. I use him mostly in the winter on letters and say, "this is me wishing for warmer weather". I live in Ohio. Pretty dreary! Quick response and almost instant delivery. But, that's not the best part. . . The best part is that Karen brought a lot of joy inot someone's life with this order. It arrived on an especially difficult day. The recipient is a new stamper and not well. This cardstock thrilled her. And to add to the thrill, Karen included several cards to show a new stamper what can be done. I'm pleased to say my student is quickly passing me up. Her talent and creativity are fantastic. She is an inspired stamper and the cards Karen sent not only sparked the imagination, but brought sunshine into a dark day. Thank you so much, Karen. I only wish you could have seen the recipient's face light up when she opened that envelope. Kathie ~ who is about to get tears in the new keyboard! I better quit writing. - - ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 26 Feb 1998 19:13:40 -0600 From: "JenO" Subject: Re: RubberTown: Re: RS: Postal Addressing Standards. The zip +4 will get your package there faster if the entire address is written legibly in block letters and the postal machinery (optical scanner) can read it as a standardized address. If you have a nifty software program that allows you to pirnt labels with address barcodes on it, all the better. That makes your mail automatable. Also, white or light color envelopes help the automation process, too. I'm not a postal employee, but I do write and design direct mail pieces for a living. So, I'm always looking for ways to get it there quicker. You can get free templates from the Post office business mail center. These will tell you if your handmade cards fall within certain size and weight ratios. jenO - -----Original Message----- From: ISTMP2@aol.com To: socrates@sprintmail.com ; rubbertown@xmission.com ; rubberstampers@aloha.webkahuna.com ; rubberstampers@crafts.dm.net ; rubberstampers@firewall.genie.net Date: Thursday, February 26, 1998 8:42 AM Subject: RubberTown: Re: RS: Postal Addressing Standards. >I asked my wonderful postmaster yesterday about the benefits of zip+4 as per >the discussion.
