There is a special glue that you can buy for use with foils and even extra tips for the bottles so that you can get a very fine line of glue extruded. Once the glue is dry, yet still tacky, you place the foil on the area with the shiny side up, yucky side down. You then rub over the area with something like a craft stick and the foil is transferred. You can also use sticky things like monoadhesive, doublesided tape, just about anything. If you are doing something that you would like to be *really* permanent, you should probably seal it with something. I'm hoping to make up for my earlier brain clouds..... Can you apply the glue to your stamp, stamp then put the foil on? Will this damage the stamp? Or, is it easy to wash off, as long as you do it right away? Hard brayer: It's made of a very hard compound, probably plastic. When you roll it on the paper, there is no "give" in the brayer at all, so any sponginess must come from a magazine or something like that under the brayer. Originally, this was a printing tool, used to spread the extremely thick, gooey inks onto a sheet of glass. The brayer had to be rock hard to give it the strength to move the thick inks. Unless there is a magazine or something under your stamping paper, this would not be the ideal way to brayer lines or patterns onto paper. But if you were trying to spread inks or paints onto paper, without a great deal of consistency, this would work. Medium brayer: This is a dense rubber brayer, with enough "give" to ensure that whatever ink is on the brayer is transferred to the paper. This is what most stampers used to brayer cardstock using rainbow pads. It's also good for brayering lines or patterns onto the paper. One popular brand is the Hunt Speedball. Foam brayer: I've seen two versions of this. One is the extremely cheap brayer-and-pan sets for $2.99 from the hardware store. Originally designed for applying paint to walls, they're made of a porous/spongy material like an oval cosmetic sponge, with green plastic handles and white-ish plastic pans. The other version is a black foam tube with a metal handle that seems to be less dense that the Speedball, but probably a bit denser than the cheapie plastic/foam kind. Neither of these will give the pure, seamless application of colour that you can achieve after a lot of practice with the Speedball. They can be coloured on directly with pens, and the resulting lines will be a little blurry/soft, and even softer if you mist the brayer with water. /\ (o) .\/\ /\ . . . in the darkness, light . . . . \.\/\ / .\ /\.\/. \ /. .\ /\ Kate Whitridge /. \/. .\/ . \/. \ The RubberSnark ./ . . \ . / ..\/\ whitridg@achilles.net - - ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 14 Mar 1998 08:16:15 EST From: Leilani140 Subject: RubberTown: The Rubber Stamp Flea Market The time is finally here!
