Hi everyone! I finally got a chance to see some old series
TP; my Medusa Strain dvd came the other day. What a blast!
Production values are lower than the new series of course,
but it's a more serious show I think, less jokey. One thing
I don't understand is the jaunting belts. Can they not
teleport without them? Did they get them from the Galactic
Federation? Must see Slaves of Jedekiah :) The commentaries
are very enjoyable, too. (Nicholas Young is soooo bitchy!
;)
Does anyone else think that Gen. Beaumont-Savage's "Ginge"
comment to Megabyte was an homage to the OS character?
Oh, and hello to Wendy, I never returned your welcome from
a few weeks ago. Hi!

Warren,
When you get it, let me know. I'd like to see if they changed
the cover art and/or multimedia before it shipped. :)
Thx!

The Jaunting belts boost their signal and without them the TP's can only do
short jaunts...
Bitchy is not how he'd describe himself, he's actually a very serious person
but when he gets together with PVC they are a real laugh!

If you read the NS books there are a lot of references (names etc) to the
original characters... I definately think they did it in homage to the OS.
What do others think?

Nigel Robinson's doing of course.
Lee Pressman had viewed some of the original series before writing LS,
so it is possible that it was intentional.

I don't know if anyone will answer this but I just watched The Blue And
The Green and was wondering, probably already mentioned and I missed it,
why was "Tim" Philip not present for the first 4 episodes of the
commentary?
And Jackie, if you can, tell them to keep them up as I learn stuff I
didn't know about the episodes, one being I had no idea that The Blue
And The Green were actually shot in a real school. Not to mention the
reason why John seems to overreact to the picture blowing up and the
almost disappearing Elizabeth at the end.. ;0)

Yeah please. Just the back cover. I am especially interested in the
bottom section where the credits are. And if anyone gets their hands
on "Doomsday" or "Rift" I'd appreciate the same.

Remember that note you sent me a while ago? About the interesting
overlap between my web site (TP Ep Guide/Gallery) and the DVDs?
Well it has to do with that :)
Plus, I get to post the scans to the site so that everyone can

Or wait for "Blue and Green". John explains them to
Elizabeth.
The TP can teleport without the aid of the jaunting
belt, but they can't teleport as well. Also, the
jaunting belt allows TIM to teleport them directly to
the lab, even if they are in some way incapacitated.
It's pretty much implied that John made them, likely
with some help from TIM. Later on in the series, they
switch the jaunting belts to smaller wrist-bands.
It's never stated how exactly these belts work, other
than in some way to boost the TPs power to jaunt.

Philip was stuck in traffic and arrived late, or so we are told on the DVD.
PVC told me a funny story which I am assuming is the truth... Everyone had
arrived for the recording session apart from Philip and after half an hour
Peter says to Jason 'You did remember to call and remind him and send a taxi
to collect him didn't you?' Of course Jason hadn't thought of this and
promptly went to call Phillip who had, unfortunately, forgotten all about
the recording session and was still in the bath. A taxi was dispatched
forthwith!
They have already recorded some more with Elizabeth doing the commentary but
PVC has not been involved for a while so I suspect the commentaries wont be
as funny or 'bitchy' lol
Liz is a wonderful and genuine person who is bound to give us her personal
insights into the show.

Are there a lot? I saw a few short references to names and one book had a
major reference to the Galactic Trig and maybe even something about the
former Tp leaving Earth? Not sure. I read them a long time ago.

Okay so I was talking to this complete FRUITCAKE last night, who
dropped this little bombshell on me. I truly believe that he/she
is lying, trying to be a big shot, and got caught. But then again
I have been wrong before.
The upshot was that three months ago, there was a bid offer put
out (and presumably given to someone) to make a brand new TP
feature film. Supposedly there is a web site in the U.K. (I haven't
found it). This tweek couldn't, then wouldn't give me any names. And
didn't have any information other than to say that he/she bid
on it.
So, anyone heard this little piece of scuttlebutt? Am I just behind

he/she is a lying piece of shite? ;)

Well, if he was on, I didn't see him.
There was premiere of a new movie yesterday, apparently he was there, and
Channel 10 news spoke to him - they did do a small piece on the new movie (not
one he is in - although Blurred is due out in three weeks), but I guess whatever he
had to say wasn't interesting enough to be televised.

Well, I do hope PVC continues to do the commentaries.
For one thing, PVC seems to remember much more about the stories than Nick
who only seems to remember things about how bad the special effects or
acting where.
But I specially wanted to listen to PVC's commentaries on ARIT and The
Doomsday Men (which he told us was his favorite because of he got to fence
in that one).
It would also be nice to have all the three of them PVC, Nick and Liz together.
Talking of the commentaries, after watching the Blue and the Green
commentary, I listened again to the Slaves of Jedikiah commentary, and it
seems they recorded it AFTER the B&G: in the B&G commentary PVC mentions
that they had painted his face white for some shots but he didn't remember
when, and then in the SOJ commentary he says something like: "that's the
shot where they painted my face white that I mentioned in the B&G"; another
clue is that Nick didn't recall John having a bedroom away from the lab in
the B&G commentary, and in the SOJ commentary, during John's bedroom
scene, the others tell him something like: "see, there's John's bedroom".
I just thought it curious that they would record the commentaries out of
order. Jackie, do you know why?

Kathryn,
Do you go into JB regularly? I am just trying to work out what type of
shipping times they have on the TP DVD's. I would think with ARIT due
soon that we could be seeing it in the next 2 weeks in stores. Well one
would hope anyway.

How much was what? Oh well, doesn't actually matter; anything bought

Just re-read this. Intresting concept. Dunno about that, really. It would
make sense, I guess. I see that nobody brought up the fact that in the OS
Mike and Andrew had a battle with illusions, and the soldiers *did* die in
the battle, and they "killed" each other, yet neither seemed to be bothered
by it. Dunno if its the fact that they both knew they werent really killing
anybody, or what.

Hi all, sorry to keep repeating myself but I thought I should give you an
update on the dinner. Just in case anyone thought that the event might be
cancelled due to lack of interest rest assured that it will not! This is a
once in a lifetime, never to be repeated, event... what more can I say ;-)
There are just ten (10) tickets left and in total we'll have 70 people there
(including guests) on the night. If there is anyone out there on tpdis who
has not reserved their place then do so quickly.
I thought some of you might like to know that ten people are flying in from
the USA, one from Mexico and one (I'm hoping) from Aus ;-) The hotel is
also running out of rooms so please, please don't put off reserving a room.
I think that breakfast the next morning could be more interesting than the
dinner itself. Especially as some of the cast may stay overnight too!!!

Today I received this mail...
I unfortunately have never seen
tomorrow people, but there was a
revelation in my household last night,
as my dad said that he was in an
episode of it!! he told the story of
when he was in the Royal Marines
and was asked by a film crew if any
of them would like to help filming for
a day (for a good fee of 5 - in those
days) - he did appear in it for a
couple of seconds as the episode
was something to do with an army
jeep and a baddie. sorry I cant be
more specific, but I think the
*stardom* went to my dad's head. Do
you know the episode? I'm;m going to
look out for it on DVD or video as I
think it would be a treat to get it for
him for Christmas!
So can we help this chap out? Does anyone think that it could be the chase
scene in 'Blue & Green' where his dad doubled for Chris in the jeep as he
was being chased by the police?
thanks

Or the guys kidnapping Douglas in The Doomsday Men.
BTW, has anyone seen that story listed for sale as an individual DVD
yet? I've seen listings for A Rift in Time and the box set, but not
Doomsday Men. (Though I could think of worse DVDs to have to copies of
than The Blue and the Green.

Thanks Beth I never thought of that! I have only seen Doomsday Men mentioned
in the box set and think that Revelation are deliberately delaying it's

What about Revenge of Jedikiah? Lots of army people there, although I don't

That's what I was thinking, or how about that one police officer? I was just
watching the B&G, thinking that the police officer didn't seem to be an
'actor,' and it was odd that he had no lines. So I figured they may have
used a real policeman. But I'm just guessing... :-)

I though it would be convenient to stay at the hotel that the function is
being held... I lost all my email, so I hope that the Hotel Antoinette is
the correct Hotel...
The Hotel Antoinette is (apparently) a 20 minute train ride to London, so
day Jaunts to the various points-of-interest should be easy..
As I've said before, I plan on visiting sights based on TTP (old and new),
Fawlty Towers, Hitchhikers Guide and Monty Python (apparently there is a
walking our around the bbc studios where mp taped). Company would be
welcomed... I feel a need to lie down in the mud in Islington!
Hey, its not much of a life, but its all I have!

The people who are going to the dinner from the US, if you have been able to get plane tickets and hotel, can you please give me an idea of how much that was. I'm hopping to go, but being a poor college student, I need to know in order to plan ahead, and I'm not able to get quotes online yet... (pfft :-P) please give me an idea off list.

Subject: TPDIS: Greetings!
Date: 24 Oct 2002 22:05:15 -0500
Hello there fellow TP fans!
My name is John Merullo and I'm new to this list, so I thought I'd
introduce myself.
I'm a 33-year old librarian in Houston, Texas, USA. I watched the
original _Tomorrow People_ on Nickelodeon in the early 1980s when I was
in my early teens. The perfect age for the show, I think. I used to hope
I would start hearing British voices in my head. I was a lonely misfit
kid and the idea that there were these other kids out there not so
different from me who had special powers was so cool!
My favourite characters were John, Elizabeth, Stephen and Hsui Tai. I
will admit to having had a crush on both John and Stephen when I was a
kid. I like the second season (second series in the UK) best, but I
liked episodes in all seasons.
I just bought a VHS copy of "The Blue and the Green" on eBay. It's good
to see my old friends again after so long. PVC looks *so* young in that
serial! And I forgot just how very seventies it was!
I haven't bought a DVD player yet, so the DVDs will have to wait. I am
enjoying the new CD series.
I never saw the 1990s series.
Anyhoo, that's me. It's good to find out that if there aren't really TP
out there (yet!), there are other people for whom they were a special
part of their growing up.
Cheers!

Hi John,
Nice to have you on the list, not to mention a fellow Texan. :-) The TP
certainly was a powerful enough show for us to remember all these years -- I
think especially in the U.S., since, as far as I know, it's never been aired
after its initial run on Nickelodeon. In other words, it made quite an
impression to remember it for so many years without any reminders in
re-runs! :-)
And you've certainly got a good point about how 70s it is, and not just for
the fashion and lingo. Quite a few contemporary issues are dealt with, as I
recall. And it makes me wonder if the show *could* have lasted into the 80s,
had it gone on?
Anyway, hope you get a DVD soon -- I think the Blue and the Green is
probably the best of the lot, but they're all worth collecting, even if only
for the nostalgia. (And don't forget to get a multi-regional DVD!)
I think you'll fit in with the rest of us misfits; as far as I can tell (and
I'm relatively new to the list as well), most seem to be over-analytical
people, often interested in other languages, often in technology or higher
academic backgrounds, and probably also semi-anti-social people like myself.
;-)
If you don't have the original books yet, you can probably find them on eBay
as well. I've been reading those recently, and so far One Law seems to be
the best of them. The earlier ones appear to be a bit more for a younger
audience, but all enjoyable.
I'm about to have an opportunity to see the 90s series, so I'll let you know
what I think. :-)
Take care,
Mike

Hope you'll like this list. Its a good group, and usually very chatty.
I cant find the emails about the regionless dvd players right now, but
there are a few members who can reccomend a few models that you can get.
I presume you've read the ficcies at the archive? If you like them I can
email you a url to an adult TP ficcie list. Its mostly slash right now, but
if that doesnt squick you, you're welcomed to come for a visit. Email me

I mailed him the details and he bought B&G but said despite enjoying
watching it (and discovering that his wife was a closet fan lol) and getting
his 5 year old kid hooked on the title sequence, there was no sign of his
dad. He reckons that it must have been in season one as his father recalled
it being recorded in 72/73... I'll let you know of any further developments!

Carol,
I just watched that episode with friends (both of whom are now TP
fans!). He did appear to teleport the melon wedge. I imagine it was
cheaper to do a teleport effect than to have it float over to him. Or
maybe the TP could teleport small objects by TK.

Re: whether the TP could read saps' minds, that seemed inconsistent. In
"A Rift in Time" John explains to Chris how telepaths have no language
barriers because they can tell what people are thinking and can make
them think that they heard their own language. That sounds an awful lot
like they're reading minds. And some of the "breaking out" segments
(particularly Stephen's, Elizabeth's and Paul's in the _New Gods_ CD)
seem to imply that when at least some TP break out they have trouble
filtering out the voices in their heads.
BTW, this is kind of cool. The first e-mail I got from someone on this
list was from a Mike and now my first response is to a Carol.
John
I guess there's no one on this list named Tyso or Hsui Tai.

Subject: TPDIS: Telepathy
Date: 31 Oct 2002 08:34:34 +0000
hi All,
It's been so quiet around here lately that I thought I'd take some time out
at work to stir things up a bit and get a discussion going.
I was watching A Rift in Time last night (and falling about with hysterics
at the audio commentary) it does seem so much funnier when you know the
people involved and what they are like under normal circumstances ;-) Enough
name dropping lets get back to the topic...
I was Thinking about the fact that they could read Saps minds to translate
their thought patterns and understand their language.
I wondered whether we, as a group,(and i know there are parapsychologists,
physicists, biologists etc. etc. on this list) could come up with a
definition or working theory for the TP's use of telepathy.
As I see it here are the relevant facts.
1. At break out they have the thoughts of all Saps flooding into their brain
and they have to think of a fist and form a mental barrier.
2. Carol mentions that they cannot read Stephen's mind unless he wants them
to!
3. There are Sap telepaths in 'The Visitor' book and Trisha who work for the
army. John allows her to hear TIM... How could he do this?
4. At some point they mention that they cannot read Sap minds (although I'm
not sure where I got this idea from.
5. In ARIT they can translate brain waves to interpret language.
6. The link table can boost the signal.
7. TIM is telepathic even though he is basically an artificial
intelligence... a super computer made from biological materials.
8. Telepathy doesn't work when someone is asleep (usually) although you can
send messages through time using it! and TP's can share dreams in common.
9. They can send emotions as well as words e.g. in Doomsday Men Stephen
knows the others are eating breakfast!
Is there any information/cannon I've missed?
So what I'd like to know is a) what telepathy actually is? Is is a signal?
does it have a wavelength? How could the TP's brain's actually generate it?
What are it's strengths and limitations? Does it have an element of empathy
to it?
I hope this can lead to a new discussion and that all the new list members
can join in with their own ideas. I'd especially like to know more about how
the telepathy works in the NS?
TTFN
Chris ;-)

1. At break out they have the thoughts of all Saps flooding into their brain
and they have to think of a fist and form a mental barrier.
John admits he didn't have the voices in his head (One Law) The image of the fist is more for opening the mind, not forming a barrier (Carol's speech to Stephen (Slaves)
2. Carol mentions that they cannot read Stephen's mind unless he wants them
to
You got me on this one - powers seem to be "arbitrary" based on the writer.
3. There are Sap telepaths in 'The Visitor' book and Trisha who work for the
army. John allows her to hear TIM... How could he do this?
Probably relays it to her since, for all her "experience" she's pretty untrained as far as he and the others are concerned.
4. At some point they mention that they cannot read Sap minds (although I'm
not sure where I got this idea from.
John tells Ginge that they can't read Sap minds in Medusa Strain
5. In ARIT they can translate brain waves to interpret language.
This goes completely against the above, but it's a convenient plot device.
6. The link table can boost the signal.
Yes.
7. TIM is telepathic even though he is basically an artificial
intelligence... a super computer made from biological materials.
Galactic Trig technology - I don't know how it works, it just does.
8. Telepathy doesn't work when someone is asleep (usually) although you can
send messages through time using it! and TP's can share dreams in common.
Seems to be the case.
9. They can send emotions as well as words e.g. in Doomsday Men Stephen
knows the others are eating breakfast!
I would also think the time of day has something to do with it, course I love it that you can hear John talking with his mouth full while he's speaking telepathically (nit picker that I am)
So what I'd like to know is a) what telepathy actually is? Is is a signal?
does it have a wavelength? How could the TP's brain's actually generate it?
What are it's strengths and limitations? Does it have an element of empathy
to it?
Tim mentions (Medusa) broadcasting on all Telepathic bands and Tim has had very convenient issues with "interference" when trying to contact the Trig.
OOOOH, my brain hurts - too much thinking too early in the morning
I only watched a few of the NS - Didn't think they were as good as the original, for all their expensive special effect, but that's just me.

PLEASE don't even think about comparing me to that cheesy, irritating
screamer! As I have said on the list before, I am embarrassed to share the
same spelling of my first name with her. Why couldn't they have spelt it
with an 'e' on the end?!? :)
Having said that I tend to prefer the NS version having seen only 4 stories
so far of OS on video/dvd. Mind you, the commentaries are hysterically funny
on the Blue and the Green, so I'm getting the rest to see if they are as
much fun as that one.

Ugh! Yes, you've mentioned that before. Don't worry, I don't think anyone's
going to confuse you with her. ;-)
Still, I can't say I'm particularly fond of Mike on the show either, but I'm
not going to complain. I do remember when I was in the 4th grade, another
'Mike' said I was a 'disgrace to all mikes.' So, I punched him right in the
nose! It was worth being suspended from school, too. :-)
Hopefully Sammy Winmill never punches you in the nose if you ever meet, but
I wouldn't blame her if she did!

Eep! I'm sorry. I meant no offence.
I'll addmit there have been plenty of people named John I haven't liked.
Having said that, the TP John is one of my favourite characters. :-)
